To mark the 10th anniversary of his assignment to Western Oregon, Archbishop John Vlazny recently awarded nine priests with the honorary title of monsignor. In addition, the archbishop conveyed papal honors on a religious order priest, four religious order women, a deacon, and several lay men and women.
“I can think of no better way to celebrate this anniversary than with those of you who represent the best of the Catholic community in western Oregon,” the archbishop said.
Among the lay men and women named Knights and Ladies of the Order of St. Gregory were John Limb, publisher of OCP, and his wife, Kim Limb. The honor is bestowed on those who have diligently served the church at the local level.
In addition, the archbishop gave Pro-Ecclesia et Pontifice Crosses (For the Church and the Pope) awards for service to the church to OCP board member Mary Jo Tully and OCP author Deacon Owen Cummings. Monsignor Charles Lienert, also an OCP board member, was named a chaplain to his holiness, entitling him to be addressed as reverend monsignor.
