Ceili Rain’s Hit Single ‘Kneeling’ Has Listeners on Their Feet

Sometimes a song’s message is so powerful, it can’t be limited to a single audience. Ceili Rain’s latest offering, “Kneeling,” is exploding into the contemporary Christian music world with a message that calls Christians to unity in the midst of divisive times.

One of the most popular bands in Catholic music is now reaching an even larger audience. The winner of the 2005 and 2006 Unity Award for Best Group is gently addressing volatile current events with a humble call to prayer. Responding to hundreds of calls and emails, Christian radio giant K-LOVE (with 230 stations across the country) added “Kneeling” to their rotation. The song spent several weeks ranked in K-LOVE’s top 16 and made Christian Radio Weekly’s top 20.

Songwriter Bob Halligan, Jr., with 140 recorded songs to his credit by well-known rock artists including KISS, Rebecca St. James, and Judas Priest, penned the lyrics that cut through all of the political noise to make a simple statement:

You ask me what I think of the war
You ask me what I think it was for
You ask me what I think of our policies
My position, my only position is...

Kneeling, my only position is kneeling,
My position is kneeling

“I will say it scared me at first—politics can be so off-putting and divisive,” says Halligan. “But this is the whole point of Kneeling—Don’t be a ‘smooth operator,’ don’t think ‘spin’ or angle. Think how it would be if world leaders made their decisions based on a truly spiritual perspective. Here’s hopin’ we snag a few!”

With their music breaking barriers, Ceili Rain has reason to live up to their name—“Ceili” (pronounced KAY-lee) is a Gaelic word for “party.” A celebration is indeed in order for the group with a song that recently made it all the way up to K-LOVE’s top 12.

“As Bob Halligan and I talked about Kneeling during the recording of Whatever Makes You Dance, he felt that he had written the song he was born to write,” says Robert Feduccia, General Manager of spiritandsong.com. “But he has written and recorded the album he was born to write and record. Each track expresses the purity and authenticity that is the hallmark of Ceili Rain. Great writing. Great lyrics. Great instrumentation. It’s simply a great record.”
