"Within My Heart this Hope I Cherish"

God works in mysteries ways! The week I had planned to set aside some time to write this article turned into a week where I participated in four funeral Masses. One was in Boston for the funeral of Monsignor Frederick McManus. The other three were for colleagues’ family members. Coincidence? Providence? Call it what you like, but it gave me an unexpected opportunity to reflect more deeply and on a very personal level about the formative power of our rites associated with Christian death.
