A noted scholar, author and teacher, Maxwell E. Johnson is professor of liturgical studies at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN. He also serves as an editorial consultant for Worship and is a member of the North American Academy of Liturgy (NAAL) and Societas Liturgica. An ordained Lutheran minister, Rev. Johnson has a doctorate in theology, with an emphasis in liturgical history, from Notre Dame; he also has master's degrees in theology from St. John's University, Collegeville, MN, and from Notre Dame. In addition, he has a master's in divinity is from Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, IA.

A prolific writer, he has published several books, including Worship: Rites, Feasts, and Reflections (Pastoral Press). He served as co-editor of the essays in Studia Liturgica Diversa (Pastoral Press). Maxwell has published articles in many major theological and liturgical journals.
