Mark and Janet give us the inside story to Mass of the Little Flower. How does this setting engage parishioners at Mass?
Considering the many changes in the prayers and music texts of the new Roman Missal, it was our goal to create a unity to the melodic structure and style overall. Although there are both up-tempo and meditative pieces, there is a hint of the basic melody in all of them. Also, within each piece, we repeat certain musical phrases, making the settings easy for the assembly to quickly learn and sing.

What was your inspiration for Mass of the Little Flower?
When we learned that the third edition of the Roman Missal was approved, we began to think about composing a setting of the Mass that would be simple, easy, and joyful—one that young people could easily sing. We have always admired Saint Thérèse of Lisieux (who is known as the "Little Flower"). Her simplicity and youthful approach to life and prayer inspired us to name the setting after her.« Hide
