Dan gives us the inside story to Mass of God's Promise. How does this setting engage parishioners at Mass?
The right wedding of words and music can be a powerful vehicle of a person's faith. When writing liturgical music a composer must think of the people, often with untrained voices, who will use the music to give praise and thanks to God. My hope is that the solutions I've found in the challenge of setting this new text to music will be as singable, engaging and prayerful as the original.

What was your inspiration for Mass of God's Promise?
One of the great challenges for people of faith is to live in hope in the midst of many events that can dishearten us. The source of our hope as Christians is God's promise to us. It's the promise of God in making an everlasting covenant with the people of Israel that gave them hope. Then it became God's promise to send a Messiah, a Savior to set people free from all that imprisons them. And today, it's the promise of Christ the Savior—"I will be with you always."—that sustains us in hope. « Hide
