The unison melody is very easy and accessible for assembly singing. There can be a tendency for full choirs or ensembles with rich instrumentation to upstage assembly song. The advantage of the chant form is that it makes voices rather than instruments the center of gravity.

What was your inspiration for Missa Ubi Caritas?
I have always loved the Gregorian Ubi Caritas chant melody. I wanted to do something creative with this traditional chant melody so as to familiarize more people with it and pass it on to upcoming generations. Using this melody, particularly for the Eucharistic Prayer acclamations, would give it a chance for wider use than the traditional Ubi Caritas hymn, which is usually only heard, if at all, on Holy Thursday. « Hide
