On This Day

Inspired by Pope John Paul's encyclical on the place of Sunday in Christian worship, Ricky Manalo has put together On This Day, a wonderful collection of music for the Sundays and solemnities of Ordinary Time.

Music for the Sundays and holy days of Ordinary Time
Marked by beautiful, accessible melodies and profound texts, On This Day includes songs for the feasts of the Baptism of the Lord, the Body and Blood of the Lord, Trinity Sunday, the Transfiguration, the Assumption, All Saints Day, All Souls Day and Christ the King.

Cathedral choral, contemporary, and Asian-style songs
On This Daysatisfies a wide range of musical tastes, offering cathedral-style Latin hymns, catchy contemporary songs and songs drawing from the rich colors and distinctive tones of traditional Asian music. Most of the 12 original songs are arranged for SATB choir and assembly, keyboard, guitar, percussion, trumpet, trombone, tympani and solo instruments.

The first litany featuring saints of the Americas
One of many highlights is Ricky's setting of the Litany of Saints that honors and petitions St. Martin de Porres, St. Katherine Drexel and the other saints of the Americas -- the first litany of the Americas. The songbook includes a complete list of these saints and a handy pronunciation guide. "Transfiguration" and "Pie Jesu" feature unique instrumentation -- with parts for SATB choir, clarinet, cello, bass and woodwinds -- and make excellent new choir performance pieces.

Music directors looking for accessible music with beautiful melodies and sound theology will especially appreciate On This Day.
