A variety of arrangements and choral settings
Besides four new psalm settings, the collection contains new arrangements of two spirituals and a traditional French carol, as well as songs with new, original texts. The songs feature accompanied, unaccompanied, unison, and two-, three- and four-part choral settings. Scott has arranged the songs for various combinations of piano, guitar, bass, organ, harp, flute, oboe and string quartet.
Psalm settings, spirituals, Communion songs
"On the Lips of an Angel/Ave Maria" stands out. Here Scott has created a singable, flexible arrangement of the Bach/Gounod setting and added a new, complementary melody. "If Today You Hear His Voice" is a simple, haunting setting of Psalm 95. "Magnificat" is a wonderful new setting of the official Lectionary text, with two Lectionary refrains. Based on Peter's famous confession of faith in John 6, "Lord, to Whom Shall We Go" makes a stirring Communion processional.
