John Michael Talbot was drawn to the Catholic Church and to the life of St. Francis of Assisi. John Michael's quiet and meditative music is widely appreciated by Protestants and Catholics alike. "The music I write isn't gospel, contemporary Christian, or grandiose. It's sacred."
John Michael studies the music and text of the early Church and experiments in blending words, music, and instruments of past and present, thereby spanning the ages with his innovative creations. His sources include the Bible, St. Francis of Assisi, St. John of the Cross, St. Patrick of Ireland, and the contemporary Thomas Merton.
He founded an international, Catholic-based ecumenical community called the Brothers and Sisters of Charity and has raised public awareness and millions of dollars through benefit concerts for Mercy Corps International. John Michael maintains an active recording and touring schedule, along with his duties as the General Minister of the Brothers and Sisters of Charity at Little Portion Hermitage in Arkansas. He will release his 50th album in 2007.
