Christ in the Rubble

Tobias Colgan, OSB, Genevieve Glen, OSB

Christ in the Rubble

Prayerful and poignant, Glen’s text—written after September 11, 2001—conveys both pain and hope, seeing in Christ’s suffering on the Cross parallels in present-day violence. But with that, as with the Resurrection, hope of present-day redemption, too. Colgan captures this somber but hopeful tone with a free-flowing, syllabic setting with interior cadences in minor keys (including touches of the Phyrgian mode), but always ending with a Picardy third.
