Salve, Regina

Set for large choir (SSAATBB) with an optional organ accompaniment, this is an attractive arrangement of the well-known Latin chant, which for centuries has been held in special honor by the Carmelites (Sr. Sokol’s order). Modal harmonies and shifting meters to accommodate the chant rhythms give the piece a timeless feel, which builds in power and intensity from a simple unaccompanied statement of the chant at the outset, to a stirring forte conclusion sung by the full choir in seven parts.
