Laurence Rosania is an acclaimed composer, performer and teacher whose music is widely known and sung throughout the USA and abroad, including St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.
Laurence performs widely in the New York City area in diverse classical and popular venues. He has been Director of Music at three historic Manhattan churches including the Jesuit Church of St. Francis Xavier, St. Paul the Apostle—the Founding Church of the Paulist Fathers, and currently at the Capuchin Church of St. John the Baptist. He is also Artist-in-Residence at the Interfaith Center of C.W. Post/Long Island University, and is known for his performance and workshops in Gregorian chant and private teaching.
Recently, Laurence performed the recording of the new English setting of the Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom by New York composer Roman Hurko. It was recorded in Chicago with the Schola Cantorum under the direction of OCP composer J. Michael Thompson.
Laurence has written extensively for voice and choirs. His compositions for OCP include "The Supper of the Lord," "Ubi Caritas" and "As Grains of Wheat" and his new setting of Psalm 23 will be available from OCP in Spring 2011.
A native of Philadelphia Laurence studied at Yale University, with additional studies in music at College of Music, Temple University, and at the Accademia Chigiana, Siena, Italy. He completed graduate studies in spirituality and theology at Fordham University. While he has resided in both Trappist and Zen Buddhist monasteries, he currently lives in New York City where he originally located to work with Dorothy Day at the Catholic Worker.
