Lourdes Montgomery was born in Havana, Cuba, and came to the United States at the age of five. From 1986 until 2005, she was music director at Mother of Christ Catholic Church in Miami. She also served at St. Kevin Catholic Church in Miami as the director of music for youth and school liturgies. Since 2005, Lourdes has been the music director at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church at Rodgers, Arkansas, where she lives with her husband Mike (who is also a classical musician and teacher) and their son. Their daughter lives in Miami, Florida. Lourdes studied classical and jazz piano at Miami-Dade Community College and later devoted herself to the study of music theory, music composition, and classical piano at the University of Miami.
Lourdes composes music for the liturgy in both English and Spanish. Her first collection of liturgical music, De la Cruz a la Gloria, is available from OCP. She has given workshops at both the national and international levels. One of the highlights of her career was providing formational workshops in the Dominican Republic in 2005 with Tom Tomaszek. Their goal was to teach new music to people living in rural areas. In 2008, “Bienaventurados,” one of Lourdes’ compositions, was performed at a Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI in Washington, D.C.’s Nationals Park stadium.
