Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.
—Matthew 25:40

The path Jesus calls us to is rarely an easy one. It requires a certain openness and trust in God, a willingness to be stretched beyond our comfort zones. Tom Booth's latest collection begins with a similar call, the call to live a life that is both courageous, humble and ultimately not our own.

One of Catholic contemporary music's most well-known and established artists, Tom brings us a new album that is the fruit of a decade-long journey. You Welcomed Me is real and it is raw, each song a calling to look outside ourselves and our comfort zones to welcome and serve the marginalized, the poor, the needy, the addicted and the lost—"the least brothers"—at our table.

He opens the collection with "You Called Me," a retelling of the story of David and Goliath that has a definite Americana feel à la Bob Dylan or Rich Mullins. The collection quickly transforms into a devotional process, inspiring us to live a saint-like life with “Do Something Beautiful for God.” Inspired by Mother Teresa, it features simple lyrics about how perfect our imperfection is and how we are all capable of doing something beautiful, like feeding the hungry or giving hope to the hopeless.

Overall, the music styles are eclectic, a reflection of all the artists and albums Tom has enjoyed listening to and playing over the years. The bluesy “Pilgrim, Walk On,” co-written with Sarah Hart, reminds us that even in the darkest and most trying times, God is still with us, supporting us to follow his call. Contemplative, melodic and singable, “Be Still and Know that I Am God” is another Booth-Hart collaboration based on Psalm 46:10 and makes an especially beautiful addition at Mass.

Song after song, album after album, Tom continues to offer inspiring music for our faith journey. You Welcomed Me carries on that tradition in a more honest, more heartfelt, more exposed way, a testament of one who is truly working to live out God's call in his life.
