O My People
This stunning piece—set for choir and assembly for use on Good Friday—marries a beautiful paraphrase of the Solemn Reproaches with the ancient majesty of the Latin chant AVE VERUM CORPUS. The invocation and five verses are in unison, representing the first-person perspective of the Paschal Christ, and are answered by the SAB choir and assembly for the peoples’ refrain, featuring newly composed music to accompany a response reminiscent of the venerable Trisagion prayer (honoring the thrice-holy God, who is holy, mighty, and immortal). The keyboard and guitar accompaniment are enhanced by included parts for oboe and cello.
