Angus McDonell is a composer with a vision for awesome, hip, Catholic music. He writes from the heart, fashioning poetic and dynamic music for liturgy and listening. Angus' song "River of Life" was chosen as the theme song for the 2003 National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) in Houston.
Angus' passion to draw souls to Christ was instilled in him from camp counselor days. His studies in theology (B.A., Seattle University) and music (M.A., Northwestern University) fit him well for this mission. He characterizes his musical experience as a move "from grunge to jazz to classical and back to grunge with a short misguided turn to muzak."
Angus' laid back, articulate approach, along with his contagious, zany sense of humor, makes him a popular choice for concerts, workshops and youth events. More than just a performer, he is an inspiring prayer leader. His music can draw a group into deep prayer and lift them up in exhilarating praise. Angus' deep love for the Lord, the Church and His people fuel his passion for this ministry. He has performed at major youth events nationally and internationally, including two World Youth Days, two National Catholic Youth Conferences, four Franciscan University High School Youth Conferences and numerous parish, diocesan, and university events.
Angus often collaborates with his wife, Twila, a gifted musician and speaker, for concerts, workshops, and conferences. A professional flutist with a doctorate from Northwestern University, she has performed throughout Europe and North America. She has directed choirs at St. Louis University and has served as a member of the performance faculty at the University of Missouri, Saint Louis, Webster University and Northwestern University. The McDonells live in Evanston with their children, Josie and Lorry.
Angus serves as the Director of Youth Ministry for the Archdiocese of Chicago. My greatest joys are my faith, family, and those I minister to through music in the Catholic Church," says Angus. He released his debut CD, River of Life, through spiritandsong.com.
