Bio

Mary Lyons is an accomplished singer, pianist, lector and teacher. She attended Juilliard and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and debuted professionally at Carnegie Hall as a coloratura soprano at the age of 20. She sang three solo recitals at Carnegie Hall and performed with several large orchestras, including the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra under Leonard Bernstein.

Mary broadened her scope of expertise many years ago when she became a lector. For over 20 years, she has been training lectors in the Diocese of Brooklyn. "Being a lector and having the privilege of proclaiming God's Word is something that defies description," Mary said. "No words can explain what it means to say 'The Word of the Lord,' and to realize that I have the awesome responsibility and tremendous opportunity to verbalize God's word, and thereby bring it to life for the congregation." Mary is the author of The Lector: Effective Delivery of the Word.
