This placid, flowing setting of the Greek prayer Phos Hilaron (translation from The Book of Common Prayer) is not difficult and is appropriate for celebrations focused on the topic of light and for Evening Prayer. Its sense of repose comes in part from its completely diatonic setting in G Aeolian (no accidentals whatsoever). The SATB choir is mostly accompanied by organ, but the second stanza is a cappella; a solo instrument part underscores the final stanza.
