Written for SATB chorus (with some divisi) and organ, the text of this piece is based on two psalms (95 and 71) and focuses on the exemplary joys of praising of God even in the midst of adversity. Composed in several sections of differing mood but linked by motivic use of double-neighbor figures, the choral writing is predominately homophonic with occasional moments of imitative writing. After a brief reflection based on the tune Conditor Alme Siderum near the end of the piece, it concludes with a jubilant fortissimo passage.
